Our Work

Protocols

For Diasporic Archival Collections

I.                 Inform potential donors of their rights to negotiate access, restriction, and notification prior to weeding at the time of donation or digitally copying their materials.

II.               Allow access to oral histories with the understanding that some material was originally

collected on the basis of a trust relationship between the community and the collector.

III.             When requested by a donor, donor’s family, or their impacted community redact available copies of collected materials to protect certain kinds of information that may cause harm--

according to and in compliance with their request.

IV.            Person's wanting to conduct research using partially restricted collections will: fill out a “Purposed Use Form” which will be evaluated by either the donor or by a permanent or ad hoc committee * of archival advisors from the community from which the material emanates on a case-by-case basis [in accordance with the donor agreement].
